History

Founded on 15^th May in the year 1987 at the Poona Cantonment  Cricket Ground  in Pune Maharashtra , by the initiative of Sir . Dr. B. M. Satpute , Founder and Director of GMM T20 , Today GMM T20  is one of the oldest T 20 cricket tournament in India .  Started for the 3 age group’s at time for Under 10 , Under 16 & Under 19 respectively GMM T20 was the first T 20 cricket tournament for the age group of under 10 & also it was a new concept to introduce shorter format of the cricket with only 20 overs per side . In the beginning it was opposed by state cricket associations as it was entirely new shorter format where small boys was first given leather ball with full pitch and regular ground . ” All small boys should go on ground and play to keep their mind and body fit ”  this was the main ideology by our founder director Sir . Dr. B . M . Satpute  which even today is the core principle behind all arranged tournaments .  In it’s first year 1987 when GMM T20 was conducted 24 reputed cricket clubs across Pune participated . After it’s grand success and first ever T 20 Cricket nature the second year 1988 registered 180 teams and 60 clubs participated , the tournament was conducted on 16 grounds , which till date stands as a unbeaten record for most number of teams playing in any cricket tournament , most number of clubs participating in any cricket tournament and the most number of grounds in any city  hosting a single cricket tournament at one point of time . In years to follow the popularity of tournament rose and by the year 1989 every single cricket club in Pune city was a part of GMM T20 along with the first cricket tournament to be conducted on all cricket grounds across Pune city . 

GMM T 20 was the first T 20 Cricket tournament ever to be conducted not only in India but also it was the first T 20 Cricket tournament ever to be conducted , As at times there was only One Day format and Test format which was part of Cricket being played globally . Since the beginning from 1987 GMM T20 was very popular among all the most prestigious clubs , all the parents and coaches . State cricket association ( Maharashtra Cricket Association ) did not take long to realise the importance of this historic tournament , It also gave its affiliation since the beginning and since it’s record number of club participation from second year, it had started taking into consideration all performances in all age groups for selecting the state level cricket teams . GMM T 20 was the most popular tournament in all leading local news paper which was print media at times since the beginning , which gave full coverage to all the games since the being year 1987 . Since the beginning GMM T 20 was the most popular, much spoken andmuch awaited tournament in Maharashtra . GMM T20 was the first tournament ever in which Woman’s team participated and competed with boy’s team . GMM T20 gave new dimensions and respect to Woman’s Cricket in our society. GMM T20 was pioneer in boosting Woman’s Cricket and also played a significant role and made State Cricket Association take note and promote Woman’s Cricket seriously.

Approximately more than 50,000 Cricketers have participated and played the tournament till date in its 33 rd year of operation , which stands a unbeaten record and this number is constantly growing . GMM T20 has produced countless Cricketing Legends which represented Maharashtra State before successfully going on to represent India both in Men’s and Woman’s Cricket . It will only be unfair to name few Cricket players as the list of great cricketers this tournament has produced is endless , It will only be fare to understand the scale and success story of GMM T20 by the very fact that current national caption for Singapore and the players involved in Cricket development for Singapore Cricket Association are gift of this great tournament which continues to grow in popularity each passing year .
